Hello

Established in 2007, the Ethical Gift Shop and Refillery is jam packed full of quaint and quirky hand made arts and crafts gifts, jewellery, clothing, homewares and stationery.  An eclectic mix of Fairtrade, ethical and local artisan produced curios will keep you browsing for hours!  Our items are hand crafted from recycled, ethically sourced and sustainable materials from every corner of the World - you'll be surprised at the creativity of our artists!  We also have a great range of eco-friendly health and beauty products.

In 2014 we introduced a small Refillery area to our shop which has grown and become very popular.  It's now housed in its own special area and boasts a whole range of Fairtrade, Organic, Free-From and Vegan produce including local honey and fresh vegetables* (*subject to availability) as well as our own brand products.  Our loose produce is priced per 100g but you can buy as little or as much as you need.  Bring your own tubs and jars to refill or use one of the paper bags provided.

Our plant based eco cleaning and household products are made in the UK, environmentally friendly and suitable for septic tanks.  These refills are priced per 100ml.  You will need to bring your own bottles to fill them up with these great products.  You can also refill your shampoos, conditioners, body and hand wash too!

If you're ever in Huntly, pop in and see us, we'd love to meet you and show you around our little shop.  You’ll find us at
9 Duke Street, Huntly, Aberdeenshire, AB54 8DL.
We’re open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am – 5pm.

Keep up to date with all our news, events and offers by following our Facebook and Instagram pages.  And we're on YouTube too.

Many people ask us what is ethical about our shop.  We are proud of our ethical credentials.  Our gifts and homewares are all hand made from recycled and sustainable materials.  This is important to us as it ensures accountability and doesn't harm the planet.  We buy from well-established and certified Fair Trade artisans across the globe.  This ensures the working conditions of those artisans are good, clean, well lit, ventilated, and safe.  Fair Trade artisans use traditional crafting techniques that are handed down from generation to generation.  These techniques are eco-friendly; they make the best use of the natural resources available to them so they don't harm the planet.  For example: our Fair Trade hand made paper products are crafted from foliage and left to dry naturally in the sun.  We also stock the work of around 80 local artisans too.  We ask that these people use recycled or sustainably sourced materials in their work as well.  We dislike the sheer amount of plastic waste from single use items to unnecessarily excessive packaging.  Our aim is to reduce the amount of waste that we, as a business, produce.  That's why we added a refill area to our shop back in 2014 - well before it became popular!

Our shop sits just off the main square in the small market town of Huntly in Aberdeenshire.  There is a good environmentally friendly ethos in our town.  There are electric cars and bikes for hire and ample charging points.  It's on the main bus route between Aberdeen and Inverness and the train station is just a five minute walk from us.  There are also many cycling routes through Huntly via the SUSTRANS network.  Our electricity is supplied by a green energy supplier.  They achieved that status in 2018.

In her role as Chair of Huntly's Business Association, Ellie convinced several local business and groups to switch to Fairtrade teas, coffees, and of course chocolate.  Most of the weekly coffee mornings that take place at the Stewart's Hall (Huntly's Town Hall) source their refreshments through us.  There are several local schools who's tuckshops we supply with Fairtrade chocolates!   A highlight of our community involvement was in 2023 when we were invited to a meeting of the Huntly Cub Scouts.  We discussed the ingredients we'd taken along with us and then helped them to cook them into a delicious meal.  We've also been asked to help groups become Fairtrade recognised.  We are also regularly invited along to the school as part of their sustainability project.

In 2023 we, on behalf of the Huntly Ethical Trading Initiative of which Ellie was Chair, worked with the newly formed Huntly Women's Football Team; explaining to them what Fairtrade means, particularly in sport.  We presented them with Fairtrade footballs at their very first competitive match and chose the Player of the match!  This work earned us the Innovation award at the 2023 Scottish Fair Trade Awards.  Our work was recognised as an innovative way to promote Fairtrade within our community.  Being part of the team that keeps Huntly's Fairtrade Town status is both important and rewarding.

In 2024, we were voted one of the UK's most favourite local businesses; coming 4th out of more than 1000 nominated entries across the whole of the UK.  We were nominated and voted for entirely by our customers whom we have a fabulous rapport with.  We were humbled to have been thought so much of by our local community.
